Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary cake
Emmerdale, one of the long-running British soap operas, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this October with a dramatic teaser trailer incorporating the latest in 3D printing technology, motion-control camera shots and a real cake by Michelle of Michelle Sugar Art.
The brief from the art director was to create an edible miniature set of the drama series including the famous Woolpack pub, the woods and many iconic scenes.
This giant set was sculpted out of slabs of vanilla sponge cake covered with fondant and then applied colour. To really capture the scene Michelle's got pretty creative by using chocolate flakes for the trees, rice crispies cereals to create texture, and shredded wheat to replicate a stack of hay bales.
It took Michelle around 150 hours to create the entire cake at her studio. Straight after, this intricate cake had to endure 5 hours journey to the legendary Emmerdale Studio in Yorkshire.
Working in collaboration with the creative team at ITV, including the art director, producer, and set specialists, the team hopes to create an epic trailer that will get the viewers excited about the special anniversary episodes.
